The conclusion is inescapable; I am a contemptuous and petty man, indulging myself throwing darts at my envied betters, those who have the guts to stand in the arena and take the blows, to dare to take the helm.
There is only one answer: this blog is hereby decommisioned. I will dedicate the time formerly put into it to meaningful action; volunteering and local political activity. No longer will I simply make noise; I'm going to make a difference.

Cue Steve Martin as Theodoric of York: Naaahhh!

Wait, I've got an even better reply: Solutions are above my pay grade.Dennis Dalehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03233729780363740881noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16017668.post-32076402717454693002008-09-11T21:23:00.000-07:002008-09-11T21:23:00.000-07:00Gee thanks mnuez. Nonetheless, I'll blindfold myself, strip naked and jump headlong into the frenzy.

Might the board members of Untethered consider moving on from the subject of the stupidity of American politics into some sort of positive critique of the make-up of society and the forces that drive it? No wild-eyed Utopian declamations of course but perhaps some hesitant offerings of possible improvements? I, for one, would love to see humanity move in the direction of happier, healthier, longer and more interesting lives with the aid of cloning and computer technologies, varied drugs, the utilization of the awesome amounts of psychological knowledge available to humankind and some new form of government that's intelligent enough to be able to utilize all of these to the maximum of human (or at least my) benefit. Might Untethered, warily and with all due caution, humbly broach the potentially productive question of, "what is to be done"?

A lowly keeper of the faithful,

mnuezmnuezhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10328856077944673860noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16017668.post-88761405884405841952008-09-10T23:48:00.000-07:002008-09-10T23:48:00.000-07:00I'm smiley pleased to see that you've decided to a...I'm smiley pleased to see that you've decided to allow comments. Not because I have anything of much value to say but because it will hopefully demonstrate to you better than statcounter can that you have appreciative readers. As one of those readers though I can only say that you shouldn't hope for too much brilliance from us in your comment section, your deft descriptions of your intriguing insights are hard to improve upon.mnuezhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10328856077944673860noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16017668.post-23449923105426178332008-09-10T00:04:00.000-07:002008-09-10T00:04:00.000-07:00"9-11 broke our confidence and Iraq hasn't, as hop..."9-11 broke our confidence and Iraq hasn't, as hoped, repaired it. We want to subsume the criminal horrors of the war within a narrative of "victory"; we want the easy credit bacchanal to resume; we want cheap gas and cheap thrills; we want the world to recede back into the murk beyond the electronic ether of "reality" television (what an ironic concept); we want to continue to insulate and inoculate; above all, we want to feel good about ourselves. It's actually refreshing to see him not play Mr. Nice guy for a moment.

One of the angry things he said recently, in reference to supposed flip-flops and self-misrepresentations of McCain and Palin, was "You can't just recreate yourself! You can't just reinvent yourself!" Which I found rather amusing considering its source.
